The iris diaphragm changes the size of the hole
through which the light passes.
You should begin with the hole small so that as little light as necessary passes
through.
As you increase the magnification, you will also need to increase the amount
of light necessary to see the object.
Be sure to always use the smallest amount of light possible to view the object
clearly.
Adjusting the iris diaphragm is the seventh step in using a microscope.
